This post is being updated. The information was a little out of date. Browsers have changed how they access the webcam to be more secure. Because of that, much of the code included for this post no longer worked in updated browsers. It is my plan to have the updates complete and this post re-published the week of 02-Aug-2021.

Like many software developers, I like to play with code - it's called hacking. And for a while now, I've been wanting to demonstrate how AI can be used in the browser to identify objects - in this case a human face.

This is something that might be used to identify and authenticate a user, allowing them access to a members' only area of a web site, web application or PWA (progressive web app).
